Katrina Reichman is the oldest child of Augustus and Frederika Reichman. As her younger siblings (Rudy, Abby, and Delia) would also experience, Katrina received little attention from her parents growing up and was raised mostly by servants. She compensated for this lack of attention by trying to be well-behaved, obedient, and studious. She took it upon herself to serve as a parental surrogate for her siblings, who found her overbearing and bossy.
Katrina was at her father's elbow as much as he allowed, listening and observing to how he conducted himself. She absorbed much through his unintentional tutelage. And because she kept her thoughts to herself, she was allowed to be present at several planning meetings held at the Rock during the formative years of the MPD. The 16-year-old Katrina can actually be seen in the background of a photo taken and printed at the momentus meeting where the PDS became the MPD, and the Four Families came into being.
As she grew older she began speaking her mind, often sharply, to her father as she criticized his decisions and those of the Four Families. While Augustus did not welcome this, he tolerated it as he recognized value in her criticisms though he stopped short, even in the months before his death, of consulting with her. With his death, Katrina sees an opportunity to inherit the head of state role she has long coveted, though it is currently occupied by her mother.
Katrina has a sharp personality that others tolerate due to her position. She married twice to MPD guards, only to have them both killed in duty as it did not occur to her to force her father to find safe positions for them. In both cases, she married out of a sense of obligation rather than love and, twice widowed before 30, sees little point in a romantic relationship.
Katrina is suspicious by nature, a quality that has come to define her personality and not without reason as she was privvy to many backroom deals conducted during the rise of the MPD. She has no qualms using others as pawns and regards this as a perfectly normal course of human interaction. She has little affection for her siblings but tolerates Rudy's company; she could just as easily do without her sisters Abby and did not grieve the disappearance of Delia for long.
Katrina's goal is to become the head of the MPD. She sees no way to effectively usurp the position from her mother without detrimental political fallout so she has chosen instead to lurk in the background, advising and manipulating her mother as much as she can. Her biggest fear is that Frederika will make a bone-headed mistake that will see her stripped of her position; in contrast, her greatest hope is that, like her father, her mother dies in her sleep, and the sooner the better.
Katrina lives in the adjoining suite to her mother in Mansion Inn. As she views this as the seat of power, she only leaves the premises when absolutely necessary.
Katrina is a top-notch schemer. She attributes her ability to plot and strategize to her father, and counts her coldness (which she acknowledges and attributes to her mother) as an asset for a leader like herself. Katrina rejected any and all attempts to take military training and thus has no combat or self-defense skills to speak of. Like all the Reichman offspring, she is educated and spends some time reading biographies of business tycoons and world leaders of the past.
