Early life and family

Carlo Reyes is a fourth-generation banker. He grew up in Rivertown Central but began traveling globally at a very young age. With an extensive set of contacts overseas, Reyes made his first million by investing in a part-time export business venture while still a junior at university. A rabid workaholic, Reyes had a preternatural knack for buying stocks at their lowest and selling them at the height of their worth. Reyes developed a reputation for being vindictive and several former partners and competitors claimed that he used his influence to have them frozen out of their profession. Before the age of 25 Reyes was married and divorced twice, each time the relationship ending in acrimony. With his last wife Isabella he had two sons, Armando and Luciano.

In the years before social unrest, he invested heavily in the food preservation industry as well as home security and self-defense. As social unrest grew to epic proportions he began sealing warehouses full of food and supplies throughout the city, a prescient move as these stashes would one day help sustain the community established at the Rock. Reyes had attempted to hold his ground against the baying bands of scavengers sweeping through Rivertown North but, fearing they soon would be overrun, went on a harrowing journey along the lakeshore to the Rock, where his business acquaintance Augustus Reichman had assembled a small army. During their flight, the 16-year-old Luciano was gunned down during an ambush along a strand of beach. Years later, after Projection Unification reclaimed the territory, Carlo renamed the strand Luciano Reyes Beach, after his son.

Of the Four Families, Carlo has been the most fervent about expansion. In a move that strained his relationships with the other Family members, Carlo commissioned a private force to scout out his old neighborhood in Whitefish. Finding the area relatively well-preserved, Carlo had several of the neighboring homes within the same walled community refurbished and relocated himself along with a few other pioneering families to the new, northernmost outpost. The settlement continues to be a sore spot among the Families, with Marshall Johnson stating that, with its permanent security force and inventory stores, Whitefish functions more like an independent settlement rather than being a part of the MPD, a charge Reyes denies.

Disposition and traits

Carlo Reyes has two emotions: calmness and red-faced rage. He is known for being completely silent for hours during meetings only to interject with his own ideas and opinions. If the others do not endorse or at least entertain them, Reyes is likely to explode in animosity. He believes that after he has considered the options in a given circumstance, through careful examination and reflection, the decision he supports is the correct one, and any variation from his dictate is necessarily deficient in one or more ways.

He prefers solitude to company and detested his time living in the close quarters of the Rock, Lukwoski Terrace, and Mansion Inn for the brief stints he spent at each, even though he was always afforded a great deal of privacy. Acquaintances and business partners find him a difficult personality to deal with as he is reticent to share his thoughts until he has come a conclusion, and then he is unwavering in his commitment to that position. Carlo Reyes has not lacked in relationships however because, in frustration to many, his chosen course often is extremely successful.

Goals and motivations

Reyes' long-term goals and motivations are difficult to discern even to those close to him because he always holds his cards close to his vest. It is supsected that Reyes himself might not have long-term plans due to the myriad contingencies faced by the survivors of the apocalypse. Having secured his goal for an independent dwelling at Whitefish, it is whispered that Reyes may be plotting to break away from the MPD or perhaps take it over.

Primary residence

Reyes dwells exclusively at his compound at Whitefish, traveling only when he must and never further south than Mansion Inn. He finds Rivertown Central and especially the southern portion of the city to be wastelands, despite the number of MPD settlements in those areas.

Attributes and Abilities

Carlo keeps himself in reasonably good shape through an occasional workout routine and sensible diet. A meticulous eater, Carlo monitors his food intake very carefully and rarely indulges himself in some of the more fattening preserved food options. He has poor people skills and prefers interacting with numbers, charts, and data, with which he excels.
