The Western Reaches is an ill-defined region west of the Juneau River across from Rivertown Central .

The Western Reaches is located directly across the river from Rivertown Central and stretches westward for approximately five miles until it meets the border of the Western Wastes. It is bounded to the north by the Northwest Reaches and to the south by an area known as either the Southwestern Reaches or the Southern Wastes.
Historically, the Western Reaches has been the home of some of Rivertown's wealthiest and most downtrodden citizens. Old mansions stood blocks away from some of the city's worst slums; grand university buildings stood across the street from notorious drug dens.
The old neighborhoods of the Western Reaches experienced the same levels of violence and upheaval as Rivertown Central, primarily because the entire region used to be part of Rivertown proper; it was only until the MPD seizure of all property east of the river that it was considered a separate entity. Recently, the scavengers driven from Rivertown have been settling in the Western Reaches, free from MPD harassment. A fledgling community has formed in the Concord neighborhood, centering around the establishment known as Barnum's Bazaar.
Like much of Rivertown, areas throughout the Western Reaches were badly damaged during the riots while other areas were burned to the ground. The area has more single-family homes than either Rivertown North and Rivertown Central, but most of these have been looted and, while providing reasonable habitation, no longer contain the supplies they once did.
The population living in the Western Reaches has been steadily increasing largely because many people have been driven out of Rivertown by the MPD, but also in part because travelers heading into Rivertown hear stories about MPD harassment and choose instead to take their chances scrounging in the Western Reaches.
