The MPD runs two Experimental Medical Facilities, where scientists conduct medical research, most specifically regarding finding vaccines against new strains of the H1N5 superflu virus. They were established outside of MPD-controlled areas of Rivertown in order to contain a possible outbreak.

EMF #945N12 is located one mile west of the Juneau River in Western Reaches, across from the heart of Rivertown Central. EMF #375WRW is located across the river one mile northwest of the Tombstone in the Northwestern Reaches.
These were at one time cutting edge medical research facilities. They were shut down during the years of social unrest that proceded the viral outbreak that wiped out the planet's population.
After the completion of Project Unification, the MPD reestablished these two facilities in order to conduct new biological research projects aimed at finding a vaccine for new strains of the superflu.
The facilities are both in poor but usable condition. Like most buildings left standing the wake of the society's collapse, they were used as temporary housing by many vagrants and were vandalized by those who felt scientists had brought on the superflu.
However, these facilities were chosen specifically because of their location across the river and because of their functioning computer networks. Both facilities work on reserve power and have strict curfews for power usage.
Each facility houses a dozen scientists and a handful of guards aimed at both protecting them, and keeping them in the facility.
While the facilities contain expensive research equipment, there is little of value for the average scavenger inside beyond the food and medical supplies the scientists require to conduct their research.
