Inventory (MPD)

Inventory is the name of the locations where the MPD stores its holdings.

Location

There are four inventory locations, each situated near an MPD headquarters and/or settlement, with the largest at Summerland, the next largest near Ol' Federal and Whitefish, and the smallest exists on the grounds of the Tombstone. A fifth location in the basement vault of the Rock is sometimes referred to as an inventory location, though General Marshall Johnson insists it is an arsenal because it only houses weapons.

History

The MPD's Project Reclamation included the search and seizure of several scavenger camps in Rivertown Central and it became apparent that they would need somewhere to store their newly acquired goods. One of the main reasons for choosing the settlement at Summerland were the rows of intact warehouses; likewise, the old federal building (Ol' Federal) was selected both because it was in good shape but also because of the sturdy storage space across the street.

As the MPD grew, it systematized the way in which recovered goods were handled. In the early years, weapons were routed to the Rock and everything else was stored at Summerland. With the establishment of Ol' Federal as the administrative headquarters, the inventory process was formalized and refined to achieve a better balance and distribute goods more evenly as a kind of insurance in the event that the MPD would ever lose control of one of their warehouses--as well as obscuring how much of any item the MPD currently held. Maintaining accurate inventory records is a full-time job for a handful of MPD corporals. It is widely regarded as the best position within the MPD.

Condition

All inventories are in good shape and structually sound. Windows have been barred and most doors have been barred, requiring anyone entering or exiting the facility to go through a central security checkpoint, where they are rigorously searched. These checkpoints consist of two sets of reinforced doors that can be shut and barred in a moment's notice.

Inventory interiors are lit by chain lighting connected to solar panels on the roof. These lights fail to illuminate the cavernous warehouses adequately, giving the space a dark, forboding air.

Inhabitants

Along with MPD headquarters and settlements, inventories are the most heavily guarded and fortified structures in Rivertown. A minimum of 12 guards--sometimes more--will be stationed at any inventory at any given time, day or night, and they change shifts regularly to keep guards fresh. Unless they are given explicit instructions to the contrary, guards are ordered to shoot tresspassers on sight during evening hours. Guards are posted to rooftops, to the grounds, and at security checkpoints. In addition to guards, there can be 2-8 clerks (all rank of corporal, all armed) in the stacks.

Contents

While the exact contents of inventories are always changing, and all locations contain a diverse range of goods, generalizations can be made about the contents of the following locations:

  • Summerland contains the most surplus food and clothing
  • Ol' Federal contains the highest percentage of luxury food and drink, as well as dormant electronics and computer equipment
  • Whitefish's contents are a bone of contention as they belonged to Carlo Reyes and spread across several locations before the creation of the MPD and were only brought to a central inventory after Project Unification and the establishment of Whitefish; while Reyes explicitly committed all personal holdings to the MPD at the organization's inception, the accounting of the Whitefish inventory is suspicious at best, baldly fraudluent at worst. Audits have been threatened but never carried out.
  • Tombstone has a small inventory of specialty weapons and provides additional storage for the Mansion Inn settlement.
