Erik's parents were instrumental in setting up aztalan Farms, an agricultural community in the farthest northwest region of Greater Rivertown. Along with five other families, they used age-old farming and animal husbandry practices to create a sustainable food supply. As the community's self-appointed teacher, Erik's mother <Lynn taught him and other children how to read as well as basic mathematics using textbooks scaveneged from a ruined high school. Erik's father Fernando pushed him to assume a leadership role at Aztalan Farms for which Erik, an introspective and quiet young man, was unsuited. Indecisive and easliy bullied by the elder members, Erik quickly relinquished his position, feeling he had nothing valuable to contribute.
Erik's mother was also attempting to arrange his marriage to an older neighbor, Desirée Montez, with whom Erik had no romantic interest. He was struggling with this situation when Marlon Simmons appeared at the Farms seeking shelter from a pending storm. Though the community shunned outsiders, Erik agreed to keep the man confined to the Torreon household. By way of thanks the charasmatic wanderer gave Erik a few rundown pills and introduced him to a drug he helped create called jack. By morning the man had gone leaving a note thanking Erik for his hospitality but needed to be moving on.
Three days later Erik sneaked out of aztalan Farms, heading to Rivertown in search of a new life.
Erik is an amiable and romantic young man eager for companionship. An intellectual, Erik reads voraciously from his Titan Reader, a gift from his father on his 16th birthday. As an avid reader, Erik has a much stronger grip on history, literature, art, and philosophy, topics which nearly all of his contemporaries feel to be irrelevant compared to the more pressing needs of survival. Erik is widely-read and conversant about literature, hoping one day that he too may have stories to tell that will inspire people.
Years spent on the farm taught him basic gardening and butchering skills. Despite seeming like a pushover, he has a quite and affecting manner that most people find endearing. He makes quick first impressions of people that are usually quite sound, and can be trusting without being naive.
He is physically non-descript, of medium strength, speed, and agility. His strong intuition and keen sense for danger tends to keep him from trouble. In the often dangerous world of Rivertown, Erik almost always elects for flight over fight though he is capable of defending himself if needs be.
Although he tells himself that he left home in order to experience the world more fully, his departure was hastened by his introduction to drugs that were unavailable in aztalan Farms. During his time in Rivertown, he has developed a mild rundown addiction but has difficulty controling his urge to dip into his supply of jack.
Erik was involved in a romantic relationship with another scavenger, Emilee Ringdorf. The memory of her death haunts Erik, who feels partially responsible.
Erik is at a crossroads after spending six months in Rivertown. He is mourning the loss of a companion, brooding over the stark and depressing reality of life in the city, and contemplating his next move. He is considering returning to aztalan Farms as he often longs for the fresh food, wide-open spaces, and safety of his old home. With winter coming on fast, he realizes he must either settle in Rivertown or quickly be on his way.
Erik is desperately seeking human connections. He resists what he considers to be the restrictive and parochial nature of aztalan Farms but has become jaded at the absence of compassion and lack of community present in the city.
Like most scavengers, Erik has no permanent residence but rather spends most of his time in various locations in Rivertown North, preferring the greener urban environment to the concrete and asphalt of downtown.
Erik is a sensitive intellectual type who has well-rounded survival skills. See the Game Notes for his complete stats.
