Physical description

Shotguns are relatively light weapons that shoot shells full of slugs or shot, which can be devestating at close range. The weapon is loaded through racking, a pump action that inserts a shell into the barrel. Shotguns come in many different styles: long-barreled, short-barreled, with and without a stock.

Shortened shotguns can be concealed beneath clothing.

Shotguns are often used for self-defense and also for close quarters combat.

Finding shotguns through scavenging is a rare occurance. Shotguns were a popular and inexpensive option for many citizens in the years before the superflu epidemic; they were less popular than handguns but more popular than rifles.

Shotguns are frequently issued to MPD special ops and at some guard posts. For example, guards posted inside Ol' Federal are armed with shotguns.
