The Lukowski Family is one of the Four Families of the MPD.

Members

The extended Lukowski family is quite large. The nuclear family consisted of Barrett and Abele Lukowski and their six children: Martin, Abele, Philip, Poul, Alcy, and Gemma. The superflu took the lives of both mother and daughter Abele, and the sons Philip and Poul were killed during military campaigns in service to the MPD. Barrett and his surviving children live in a high-rise condo dubbed Lukowski Terraces in the settlement of Summerland.

Family history and traits

The many in the Lukowski family possessed a natural immunity to the superflu. Barrett's older sister Lydia had six children of her own to two different fathers, and many of these children--nieces and nephews to Barrett--had children of their own in the early years of the apocalypse. As a result, a disproportionately high number of the survivors who congegrated to the Rock and settled at Summerland had blood ties to Barrett Lukowski. Through marriages and close friendships, Barrett Lukowski has always had broad popular support within the MPD.

There are dozens of jokes about the extensiveness of the clan, such as the saying "you can't break wind without a Lukowski hearing it." While these jokes are tolerated and even encouraged by Barrett Lukowski, there is also a dark side as many feel they do not know who they can trust, or whether a hasty critical comment might come back to haunt them. Barrett does little to quell these fears and suspicions and, in some cases, encourages them as well.
