USER ET HAS LOGGED ON

<ET 22:14> Reporting for duty, sir.
<GM 22:14> Hey there.
<GM 22:15> Fair warning: it might get weird tonight. Bryce and I are running concurrent sessions and will need to trade notes as we go. There might be long pauses in the action. Three dots [...] means hang on.
<GM 22:15> He's going to have his room
<ET 22:15> Ok
<GM 22:16> And I'm going to have my room (this one)
<GM 22:16> But then he and I will have a third chat room for GM talk. Should be interesting.
<GM 22:16> Let me hit you with the canned opening.
<ET 22:16> I promise to be patient.
<ET 22:16> Who am I playing wiht?
<GM 22:17> It's been a bad couple days for you. Everything Devlin stands for rubs you (as Erik) the wrong way. Where you grew up in a tight-knit farming community that had a very loose notion of private property, everything for Devlin is about the right to personal property and the commodification of everything. At night he zips you into a smelly body bag and padlocks it shut to keep you from running off or attacking him, and he's charging you a running usage fee. You're free to eat whatever you want from his stores, but he keeps a close eye on it and makes marks in a ledger he doesn't want you to see. When you ask him how much you owe, he just shakes his head and says a lot. He marches you off to the swap, telling you the way from a few yards behind you, the shotgun concealed beneath an old blanket.
<ET 22:17> *whit
<ET 22:17> shit *with
<GM 22:18> I can't tell you who! That's half the fun.
<ET 22:20> :-/
<GM 22:21> lol
<GM 22:21> Okay, hold on.
<ET 22:22> |-O
<GM 22:24> So as you near the spot Devlin intends to camp outside the swap meet, he has you stop and you both listen. Voices? He prods you forward to enter an old, cavernous atrium of some bank and, to your joint surprise, you run headlong into a middle-aged man and young teenage girl who have already settled into the space. Devlin curses and raises his weapon but it turns out he knows them, or the man at least. OTTO, he says with a nod. Otto appears nervous but the young girl bounds up to you and thrusts her hand out introducing herself as Jackal.
<GM 22:25> Your move.
<ET 22:26> What's Devlin doing?
<GM 22:26> Grumbling, but unpacking his bedroll and looking like he's getting comfortable.
<ET 22:26> So we're staying?
<GM 22:26> It appears that way.
<ET 22:27> I introduce myself to the couple.
<ET 22:27> Are they a couple?
<GM 22:28> Hard to tell for sure but the Magic 8 Ball says doubtful.
<GM 22:28> Gimmie a second.
<GM 22:30> So the girl is giving you her biggest smile and says TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF, ERIK.
<ET 22:30> Um.
<ET 22:31> What does she want to know?
<ET 22:31> WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW?
<GM 22:33> ANYTHING. HOW DOES A MAN LIKE YOU PASS THE TIME IN RIVERTOWN?
<ET 22:33> lol
<ET 22:33> Is she hitting on me?
<ET 22:34> I give her small talk BS. Tell her vaguely about the farm and my time in Rivertown.
<GM 22:37> That's not going to cut it. She's really interested in hearing more about you.
<GM 22:38> DO YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?
<ET 22:38> omg
<ET 22:38> lol
<ET 22:38> NO. How long is this going to go on? Is she good looking?
<GM 22:40> We've only been playing 20 min!
<GM 22:40> 8-D lol
<ET 22:41> Tell her I like to read.
<GM 22:43> That really excites her. She asks if you can show her how.
<ET 22:44> To read?!?
<ET 22:44> oops
<ET 22:45> Will she try to steal my reader if I bring it out? Or will her man?
<GM 22:45> Hard to say but they don't seem the type.
<ET 22:46> OK. I pull out my reader and read her some passages.
<GM 22:46> Of?
<ET 22:46> LOL, Gamble of course!
<GM 22:49> Okay, she digs it.
<GM 22:49> She snuggles up for the long haul.
<ET 22:50> gawd
<ET 22:50> So is that we're doing this session? Reading lessons?
<ET 22:51> o_O
<GM 22:52> Hang on.
<GM 22:57> This continues for a few hours until there's a real shit-your-pants moment. Devlin is keeping to himself and Otto is pacing around and shooting you nasty looks when another couple stumble into the building. It's an old wrinkled guy who looks like he could keep over any minute but with him is easily the most gorgeous woman you have ever seen. Even in books. She looks clean and well-kept. Her clothes are in good shape. She has flawless skin and this flowing blonde hair. He introduces himself as Bob and her as Delia and he asks if this is the swap. Devlin says no, and then Bob asks if they can join you. Devlin grumbles.
<GM 22:59> Otto offers them both a seat.
<GM 22:59> Jackal tugs on your arm to get you to start reading again.
<ET 23:00> I start reading again but I'm keeping my eye on them. I don't like this.
<ET 23:00> What are they doing? Acting weird? (can I roll perception)
<GM 23:04> Sorry.
<GM 23:04> They're not really doing anything. Making small talk. (No need to roll--no signs of weirdness)
<GM 23:05> Devlin and Delia start talking politics though and it begins to pick up.
<ET 23:05> Pick up how? Tense?
<GM 23:06> Sort of. More impassioned...
<GM 23:07> Devlin's talking survival of the fittest, Delia's talking social contracts.
<ET 23:07> You mean like Rousseau? (!)
<GM 23:07> Erik wouldn't know that, but yeah, that kind of thing.
<ET 23:08> Does she know what she's talking about? (How would she know Rousseau?)
<GM 23:08> To Erik, she very much knows. She's even more beautiful the more worked up she gets.
<ET 23:09> What's Devlin doing? And Otto and Bob?
<GM 23:09> Devlin's frothing at the mouth, but he seems to enjoy it.
<GM 23:09> Otto seems spellbound, kind of like you're feeling. Bob looks exhausted.
<GM 23:10> And Jackal is tugging on your arm and asking for a different book.
<ET 23:11> Is the hottie interested in us at all?
<GM 23:11> Not really. She's invested in the conversation...
<GM 23:15> And that's how the night goes. Everyone beds down and Jackal sleeps near you, but not trying to be with you...
<ET 23:15> Good to see she's got some standars.
<ET 23:15> *standards
<GM 23:17> And that's it! The next session is going to be epic.
<ET 23:17> What? Why? What's tha tmean?
<ET 23:17> What's going to happen?
<GM 23:17> I can't tell you. ;)
<ET 23:18> Dammit the suspense is going to kill me.
<ET 23:18> IS something bad going to happen?
<GM 23:19> Goodnight, Erik! :)
<ET 23:19> grrrr
<ET 23:20> Okay. Next week. Hope it's more than reading bedtime stories.
<GM 23:23> Oh I think you won't be disappointed. Make sure you're on time tho.
<GM 23:23> Thanks for playing. Sry, gotta jet! Later.
