Early life and family

Koster was born in a small northern town and lived as an only child. His high school had only 147 students and he finished top of his class. He attended College of the Northwoods, a small rural college, and finished top of his class with a joint-major in Comparative Literature and History. He worked a variety of odd jobs including logger, waiter, trapper, commercial fisherman, and exterminator before at the age of 28 when he attended Harmony University in Rivertown, studying political science, law, and philosophy at the graduate level.

He was nearing the completion of his dissertation in political science when civil uprising temporarily closed the university, and the superflu shut it down permanently.

Disposition and traits

Koster is used to living in isolation and, after years of resenting the catastrophes that robbed him of the opportunity to complete his degree, has grown to view the post-apocalyptic city as a kind of twisted utopia where only the fittest shall survive. Koster feels his superior intellect complimented by his robust and diverse survival skills makes him the model individual.

He has little use for others except for purposes of trade and as audience to his verbose diatribes on the failings of government and humanity.

Goals and motivations

In short, Koster wants to accumulate every valuable item in Rivertown not already in the possession of the MPD, a body he will not deign to recognize. Koster operates through self-made morals and ethics, deciding the strong must press their advantages to keep their position of superiority, but need not (necessarily) resort to violent means, which he views as barbaric and a tacit breaking of the rules.

He believes strongly in the right to personal property, yet he tends to see others as the temporary holders of property that will eventually be his. He gleefully awaits each swap meet, viewing it as an opportunity to fleece others in lopsided trades.

Primary residence

Koster lives in the burned out shell of the Rivertown Public Library, which he has extensively booby-trapped.

Attributes and Abilities

Koster is well-read in history, philosophy, political science, and world literature. He also has many survival skills including hunting and trapping. His interpersonal skills are severely lacking and tends to seek out arguments with whomever he meets. Though he has accumulated many varieties of weapons over the years, he only uses the simplest forms of shotguns and rifles he had experience with as a child.

He is nearing 60 years old, is gaunt beneath his layers of clothes, and is easily fatigued. He would fail most physical challenges but takes great care not to expose himself to such confrontations.
