Body armor
Body armor is protective clothing designed to deflect or deflected attacks from projectiles, explosives, blunt instruments, and edged weapons.

Body armor consists of several different pieces, each of which offers its own protective properties and is separable from the whole. A complete set of armor would consist of the following:
- Helmet to cover the head, with and without plastic faceshield
- Vest that protects the torso, front and back
- Arm guards to cover upper arms, gauntlets to protect forearms, with and without gloves
- Girdle to protect groin
- Thigh armor and greaves to protect thighs, shins, and calves
- Boots or other reinforced protective footwear
Because a full set of armor drastically limits mobility few people wear it. Some pieces, like helmets, are more widely available than less frequently used pieces, such as greaves.
Body armor comes in many different forms, ranging from sophisticated pieces tailored to specific tasks to improvised items, such as using a football helmet as a form of general head protection.
Body armor is generally used to protect from violent attacks, though it can also minimize injuries such as falling from a height.
Finding body armor through scavenging is very rare in Rivertown. MPD guards are issued a standard set of body armor (including helmet, vest, and boots) after they complete training at the Rock. MPD guards are under standing orders to rescue armor from bodies in order to keep it out of scavenger hands.
Guards are also under orders to apprehend or terminate scavengers seen wearing any kind of body armor (MPD issued or otherwise).
