Ellen! She’s a bad ass.
Seriously though, she is. I thought it would be cool to make a strong female character who was all business in this crazy, effed up post-apocalyptic world. It seems like if you go looking for trouble in Rivertown, you find it!
Did she change? I would say no, not really. She started out being totally committed to the ideals of the MPD, maybe even blindly, and that’s where she still is at the story’s end. I don’t think her near-death experiences have put her off her mission though. She still believes that the MPD will bring order to the chaos. Is she maybe a little wiser though? I think so. She has at least accepted that the organization isn’t perfect and that corruption is a real possibility. So in that sense I would say that she has changed.
The funniest thing was finding out that I was so, so wrong about what was going on. The whole time I was thinking that there was this whole setup between the MPD and this rising group of scavengers, and that there would be some big showdown in Concord, because you kept dropping all these hints and I was all gung-ho about just shooting my way in. I guess that’s how Ellen would have approached it too!
My only fear is, if this keeps up, her luck will run out for real. I wrote in one of the stories that she thought she didn’t have any luck but that’s actually not true. She was very lucky to get out of those situations alive! (Don’t know if you were fudging the dice rolls.) But at some point it’s got to catch up with her. I don’t think I want to play another session because Ellen would want to lead a charge against Concord and I’m not sure she’d survive!
At the end of the day I liked Ellen. I don’t think she had the most outgoing personality but she felt very strongly about what she believed in, and wasn’t going to let anyone tell her what she could or couldn’t do just because she was a woman. Gee, sound like anyone you know?
